CJ among 100 influential people

English: Senate Judiciary Committee confirmati...

ACCORDING to media news, the Times magazine, in its recent issue, included Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chudary in the list of hundred most influential people of the world.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan rightly deserves this title. In Third World countries where the ruling class always uses the judiciary to provide cover to their illegal and unconstitutional acts and always need a powerless judiciary to provide cover to their corruption stories, the Chief Justice of Pakistan tired hard to change this trend. Owing to his brave stance he faced tough actions of the Pakistan ruling class. During the rule of former dictator Musharraff the Chief justice suffered six months’ illegal detention with his small children. After massive public pressure and countrywide the movement Zardari government had was to restore him as a chief justice of Pakistan. Now for the first time in the country’s history even the prime minister was seen standing in front of the court.

The Supreme Court’s old decisions against privation of Pakistan Steel, Swiss bank corruption cases, rental power plants corruption cases were highly appreciated by the public. Recently the Chief Justice went to Balochistan and summoned several top officials of the government and security forces after several incidents of targeted killing and worst peace situation. For the first time the supreme court also summoned several top officials of Pakistan’s powerful secret agencies in the missing persons’ case. Several people picked up by powerful agencies were also freed after intervention by the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court.

Unfortunately, the judiciary is still facing a tough time as due to lack of interest and personal benefits the ruling class and powerful agencies are still not implementing the decision of the Supreme Court in several cases.
