Sea of people attends funeral of Burhan Wani

In occupied Kashmir, a sea of people was witnessed in Tral town today to attend the funeral prayers of martyred Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Muzaffar Wani.  Twelve  protesters were killed when Indian troops fired to disperse demonstrators. Thousands of people defying curfew and other restrictions had converged on the martyr’s hometown, Tral, from different areas of the territory. The full-throated slogans in favor of freedom and Burhan Wani were raised, and Pakistani flags were hoisted on the occasion. People used detours to reach Tral as the main highway had been barricaded by the Indian armed forces.
People walked several miles on foot to reach the area. In a significant development, a dozen of mujahideen emerged on the scene and attended the funeral of Burhan Wani. They fired in the air to salute the martyred commander. Such honoring ceremonies were a routine during funerals of mujahideen in early 90s when armed struggle was at its peak in occupied Kashmir. Funeral in absentia for Burhan Wani and his associates were also held at several places in the territory. The 21-year-old commander, Burhan Wani, the architect of the social-media driven psychological warfare in Kashmir, was martyred along with two mujahideen Sartaj Ahmad Sheikh and Masoom Ahmed Shah by Indian troops during an encounter in Kokernag area of Islamabad district, yesterday.
